Tashi Delek and Welcome !
My name is Dorje Dolma, and I am an inspirational speaker, a visual artist, and the author
of Yak Girl: Growing Up in the Remote Dolpo Region of Nepal.
Yak Girl book is available on Amazon , bookstores in United States and in Nepal. It is also
available to all patrons of the National Library Service via NLS BARD, in the United States!
My artwork and handmade jewelries are on Etsy Shop .
“I ‘m a Yak” , is a song I cowrote with Jenn Cleary on her children’s album Happy Day!
Yak Girl is published in the United States and in Nepal and I have done many presentations in
person and online in Europe, Nepal, Canada and the US at secondary schools, senior living
centers, universities, service clubs, libraries, conferences, bookstores, private events and many
nonprofit organizations.
I was the keynote speaker for 2019 Hyatt WOW Women Achievers Award in Nepal and spoke
at the 2018 Jaipur Literature Festival.
The Only Son, is a 2013 Dutch documentary, about my family in Nepal. It was directed
by Simonka de Jong and Licensed by First Hand Films, it is a story about the challenge of
keeping Dolpo’s ancient culture alive as the area becomes less isolated.
As a young, child yak herder growing up in the most remote part of the word living at 13,000 feet
in Dolpo, Nepal with no electricity, road, schools or hospitals, we prayed and told many stories
to get through difficult times. Story-telling became an important part of my life. Now, I like to
write stories, songs, create artworks with stories and present through story-telling. I often
educate people about the unique Dolpo culture and speak about the centuries-old way of life in
my isolated homeland, how it’s being changed by the slow trickle of modernity now reaching it,
and the most effective ways for first world citizens to help those in the third world.
I graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Fine Arts. My love of nature,
animals, children, jewelry and fashion is shown in my paintings and drawings, often in mixed
media form. I believe everything is connected and we need to take care of our people and
animals and our dear earth. When I travel, I often bring my books, art, and handmade jewelries
and sometimes do nature art workshops. Nature, art and writing has been very therapeutic to
me and I like to share that with others. My artworks have been published on magazines, books,
newspapers and album covers.
My mission is to inspire others through writing, art and speaking to help spread kindness to
others and the need for medical and educational resources in Dolpo, Nepal. I currently
collaborate with a nonprofit, in Canada that supports schools in Upper Dolpo.
Thank you so much! And sign up for my newsletters if you are interested receiving updates from
me.

“A rare and fascinating testimony, told from the inside, of a little girl who made an incredible trip
from inner Dolpo to America—and from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.”
—Eric Valli, director of the Oscar-nominated film Himalaya.
